Directed at all those who believe that Europe is a Europe of mutual goodwill and will continue that way for the future. And those willing to work at  upholding this conviction.

 

MOIRA AND MORIA – a  question of Life and Death

Europe shall not just watch – let alone, look away! Moira is the Greek translation for “fate”. The goddesses of fate, who determine life and death, are called Moira in the Greek mythology. The word Moria is confusingly similar.
Moria is the name of the refugee camp, hopelessly overcrowded, on the Greek island of  Lesbos. Moira and Moria – a question of life and death, of the fate of thousands. And Europe watches. Or more to the point: Europe looks away.
We, the association OK! Offene Kommune Bad Essen e.V. (open communities) are following the situation of the refugees on the Greek island with growing concern and despair. For weeks, we have been hoping for a sign, a humane gesture from the EU, which would end this pitiful situation.

The home minister of Lower Saxony, Boris Pistorius, had made some headway: he wanted to try and save underage orphans from the hardship of the coming winter. Germany and the European Union could have shown they have a heart. All in vain.

We are all Europeans. And we are all guilty if we continue to look away. If we allow thousands of children and women to face diseases, rape, hunger, misery and death.
We lose credit if we ignore Article 1 of our constitution and disregard the dignity of mankind. For this dignity of mankind is inviolable. ´The German people believe in the inviolable and inalienable human rights as the basis of every community, of peace and of justice in the world.´

We want to act now. To make a beginning. In Germany

For this terrible situation is, among other reasons, a result of the Turkish deal which we have to answer for and accept responsibility. That is why we are committed to making a contribution, even if only a minimal one. A small human gesture to help at a time of great need, which we hope can have a great impact if it falls on fruitful ground.
The grass roots action MOIRA is being launched by the association OK! Bad Essen e.V, which has been successfully helping in the integration of refugees since 2015 in a small community in the rural district of Osnabrück.

The concept is as follows:

Every community in Germany (there are c. 11,000 communities) declares itself at once willing to accept one or two refugee families i.e. mother/father with children from the Moria camps.

The help should in the first place be offered to children and women, as life for them in the overfilled camps is unacceptable, even life threatening. They should be refugees who have sought asylum in Greece but whose length of residence has not been confirmed. In almost all our communities` structures are in place to make this unproblematical. Every rural district (c.300) and every town (c.2000) declares its willingness to participate.  We must give it a try!

Perhaps, hopefully, the whole of Europe will follow suit. How wonderful that would be!

MOIRA – The fate of the refugees concerns every one of us.

Pass the message on, `Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere!´ Forward this email to your mayor, local councillor, interior minister, to local councils, state councils, MPs and MEPs. To the clergy, to refugee associations and organisations –  to all who are willing and in a position to further this humanitarian gesture, to fulfil and implement it – in Germany and Europe!

MOIRA – eine Grassrootsaktion.

Sie richtet sich an alle, die daran glauben, dass Europa ein Europa des gemeinsamen guten Willens ist und bleiben wird. Und die daran arbeiten wollen, dass dieser Glaube Bestand haben kann.

MOIRA UND MORIA  – Es geht um Leben und Tod –

Europa darf nicht zuschauen – und erst recht nicht wegschauen! Moira heißt griechisch: Schicksal. Die Schicksalsgöttinnen, die über Tod und Leben entscheiden, werden in der griechischen Mythologie Moiren genannt. Zum Verwechseln ähnelt es dem Wort Moria.
Moria ist der Name des hoffnungslos überfüllten Flüchtlingslagers auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos. Moira und Moria – es geht um Leben und Tod, um das Schicksal Tausender!
Und Europa schaut zu. Genauer gesagt: Europa schaut weg.
Wir vom Verein OK! Offene Kommune Bad Essen e.V. verfolgen die elende Situation der Flüchtlinge auf den griechischen Inseln mit wachsender Sorge und Verzweiflung.
Seit Wochen hoffen wir auf ein Zeichen, eine menschliche Geste seitens der EU, die dieser würdelosen Situation ein Ende machen könnte.
Der niedersächsische Innenminister Boris Pistorius machte einen Vorstoß: er wollte zumindest die minderjährigen Waisenkinder vor dem kommenden Winter retten.
Deutschland und die Europäische Union sollten Herz zeigen, forderte er. Vergebens.
Wir alle  sind Europa. Und wir alle machen uns schuldig, wenn wir weiter wegschauen.
Wenn wir es zulassen, dass  Tausende Kinder und Frauen in der Kälte des Winters, von Krankheit, Vergewaltigung, Hunger, Elend und Tod bedroht sind.
Wir verlieren unsere Würde, wenn wir Artikel 1 unseres Grundgesetzes ignorieren und die Würde dieser Menschen missachten. Denn „die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. …Das Deutsche Volk bekennt sich darum zu unverletzlichen und unveräußerlichen Menschenrechten als Grundlage jeder menschlichen Gemeinschaft, des Friedens und der Gerechtigkeit in der Welt.“

Wir wollen jetzt handeln. Einen Anfang machen. In Deutschland.

Denn: die schreckliche Situation ist u.a. ein Ergebnis des Türkeideals, den wir zu vertreten und zu verantworten haben. Deshalb sind wir verpflichtet, einen, wenn auch minimalen, Beitrag zu leisten. Eine kleine menschliche Geste zur Hilfe in großer Not, die – so hoffen wir – Großes bewirken wird, wenn sie auf fruchtbaren Boden fällt.

Ab sofort starten wir, der Verein OK! Bad Essen e.V., der seit 2015 in einer kleinen Gemeinde im Landkreis Osnabrück erfolgreiche Hilfe zur Integration Geflüchteter leistet, die Grassrootsaktion „MOIRA“.

Die Idee ist wie folgt:

Jede Gemeinde in Deutschland (es sind ca 11.000 Gemeinden) erklärt sich bereit, sofort eine  -oder auch zwei – Flüchtlingsfamilien bzw. Mutter/ Vater mit  Kindern  aus den Lagern Moria et al aufzunehmen.

Die Hilfe sollte vorrangig Kinder und Frauen betreffen, da für sie das Leben in den überfüllten Lagern unzumutbar und lebensgefährlich ist.  Es sollten Flüchtlinge sein, deren Asylverfahren in Griechenland bereits eingeleitet wurden und deren Bleibedauer zunächst gesichert ist. In fast allen Gemeinden sind die Strukturen zur Zeit so, dass das problemlos möglich sein sollte. Jeder Landkreis (ca 300) und jede Stadt (ca 2000) erklären sich ebenfalls dazu bereit. Wir müssen es versuchen!
Vielleicht, hoffentlich, wird unsere Aktion ganz Europa erfassen. Das wäre wunderbar!

MOIRA  – Das Schicksal der Flüchtlinge geht uns alle an.

Tragen Sie die Botschaft weiter, „Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere“! Schicken Sie die Mail weiter an Ihren Bürgermeister, Landrat, Innenminister, an Kreistags-, Landtags-, Bundestags- und Europaabgeordnete. An Pastoren, Priester und Bischöfe, an Flüchtlingsvereine- und organisationen – an alle, die willens und in der Lage sind, diese humanitäre Geste weiterzutragen, einzufordern, umzusetzen! Deutschland- und Europaweit!
